ActionAid is one of the largest development agencies, working in partnership with communities in over 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean to fight poverty and its causes. Since 1987, ActionAid has been at the forefront of community-based responses to HIV/AIDS, including supporting community-based organisations, developing the innovative Stepping Stones programme, supporting home-based care and VCT and advocating for the rights of people with HIV/AIDS and those vulnerable to it. ActionAid country programmes around the world work together to change the social and economoc factors that drive the epidemic at community, national and international levels. In January 2004, ActionAid International was founded with its HQ in Johannesburg.
